Jacob Matlala

Jacob Matlala (* 1. August 1962 in the present province of Gauteng , South Africa ; † 7. December 2013 ) was a South African boxer in Halbfliegen- and flyweight .

Professional career

On May 15, 1993 he boxed the flyweight against Pat Clinton for the WBO World Championship and won by technical knockout in round 8. He lost this title after a total of three defenses in February 1995 to Alberto Jiménez by TKo in the 8th round .

On November 18, he also captured this title in light flyweight when he defeated Paul Weir by "technical point decision" in the 5th round. This time he defended the title twice and held it until 1997.

He ended his career in 2002 after 68 fights of which he won 53.
