Zinc chlorate is an inorganic chemical compound of zinc from the group of chlorates .

Extraction and presentation

Zinc chlorate can be obtained by reacting zinc sulfate with barium chlorate . The barium sulfate precipitates as a sparingly soluble salt, the zinc chlorate remains in solution.

properties

Zinc chlorate is a colorless, hygroscopic solid. The compounds Zn (ClO 3 ) 2 · 12 H 2 O (melting temperature −24.9 ° C), Zn (ClO 3 ) 2 · 6 H 2 crystallize from aqueous solutions of zinc chlorate, depending on the concentration and the temperature of the solutions O (16.4 ° C), Zn (ClO 3 ) 2 • 4 H 2 O (53.9 ° C), and Zn (ClO 3 ) 2 • 2 H 2 O. The dihydrate melts at 114 ° C and begins to form but at the same time decompose with elimination of chlorine dioxide . There are six quadruple points in the system, two of which are in areas in which the hydrates in question are unstable or metastable.

use

Zinc chlorate is used as a catalyst , bleach, and component of explosives.
