Jacob Vallan (born August 19, 1637 in Amsterdam , † May 16, 1720 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch medic.

Life

Vallan began studying philosophical sciences at the University of Leiden on September 28, 1652 . Soon, however, he seems to have dealt with medical studies and was born on June 27, 1658 with the Disputatio medica inauguralis de angina Doctor of Medicine doctorate . He then settled as a doctor in Amsterdam, where he became a friend of Lodewijk Meijer (1629–1681) and came into contact with Baruch de Spinoza . In 1669 he went to Leiden as a city doctor and after the death of Frans de le Boe Sylvius took over the practical training of doctors at that university several times and gave lectures in addition to Lucas Schacht (1634–1689).

On February 22, 1675 he was appointed professor of practical medicine and anatomy by the curators of the University of Utrecht. He took up this position on May 20, 1675 with the speech De veteri medicina . On February 15, 1680, he moved to the chair of practical medicine at the Utrecht Institute. He also took part in the organizational tasks of the Utrecht Academy and was rector of the Alma Mater in 1683/84, 1691/92, 1698/99 and 1709/10 . Little is known of his writings, only one dissertation De mania (Utrecht 1709) should be mentioned here.
