Jacob Wallenberg (born March 5, 1746 in Viby ( Östergötland ), † August 25, 1778 in Mönsterås ) was a Swedish clergyman and writer .

Life

Jacob Wallenberg studied theology at Uppsala University in 1763/64 , made a tour of Denmark , Germany , the Netherlands , France and England in 1769 , then worked as a ship priest and traveled three times to Asia while practicing this profession. Finally he settled as a pastor in Mönsterås in 1777, but died there a year later at the age of only 32 years.

Wallenberg gained fame as a writer through his humorous travel reports , which are still read today , which also stand out due to their lively freshness and sometimes realistic coarseness. The imaginative author proves to be a very good narrator of his exciting experiences and combines this worldly zest for life with naive piety. His drama Susanna (1778) was a major success after his untimely death. Nils Afzelius got an edition of his works under the title Jacob Wallenberg. Samlade skrifter (2 vols., Stockholm 1928–1941).
