Jacopo Nardi

Jacopo Nardi (* 1476 in Florence , † March 11, 1563 in Venice ) was an Italian historian .

Born in Florence, Nardi was an ardent supporter of Girolamo Savonarola in his youth and remained a Republican throughout his life. He was a member of the republican government of Florence from 1527-30 and was exiled to Livorno in 1533 by Alessandro de 'Medici . In 1535 he protested to Emperor Charles V and then lived almost exclusively in Venice. He wrote two comedies, a free translation of Livy Andronicus and two political treatises. His most important work is the text "Istorie della cittá di Firenze", a republican account of the history of the city of Florence from 1494 to 1532. It was published in 1582 posthumously.
