Jacopo del Sellaio
Jacopo del Sellaio or Jacopo di Arcangelo di Jacopo (* around 1442 in Florence ; † November 12, 1493 ibid) was a Florentine painter of the early Renaissance .
Life
The news from the life of Jacopo del Sellaios is extremely sparse: He was the son of a saddler (sellaio) named Arcangelo. He received his training - together with Sandro Botticelli , who was only two years his junior - in the workshop of Fra Filippo Lippi (around 1406–1469). At the age of 17 or 18 he was accepted into the Florentine Guild of St. Luke (Compagnia di San Luca) (1460). In 1473 he shared a studio with Filippo di Giuliano (1449–1503).
He had a son named Arcangelo, who also became a painter.

Only for three larger altars is the authorship of Sellaios confirmed by other documents; most of the picture panels and wedding chests (cassoni) are attributions . According to these, his work encompasses both religious and mythological themes.
