Jacques Nicolas Tardieu (born September 2, 1716 in Paris ; † July 9, 1791 there ) was a French engraver .

biography

Tardieu was part of a family of engravers, illustrators and cartographers . He received his training from his father Nicolas-Henri Tardieu . In 1749 he was accepted at the Académie de peinture . He was also represented in the Salon de 1750 . Tardieu created a variety of engravings on historical, religious, and profane subjects. Furthermore portraits of well-known personalities. He had great skill in implementing the painted templates with great craftsmanship and delicacy. His best-known students were his nephew Pierre Alexandre Tardieu and Charles-Eugène Duponchel .

His first wife Louise Françoise Tardieu (* 1719), daughter of the medalist Benjamin Duvivier , who died in 1762, helped, as did his second wife Élisabeth-Claire Tardieu (1731–1773), in the workshop and were very successful. He had two sons, Henri and Jean-Charles .
