Jacques Prigent (born September 26, 1927 in Gennevilliers , France , † 2008 ) was a French boxer . He was European champion among the professional boxers in the lightweight.

Career

Jacques Prigent became a professional boxer in 1949 after a short amateur period. He played his first fight on October 10, 1949 in Paris in the lightweight and won against Lucien Ledoux after six rounds on points. By the end of 1951 he had a total of 31 fights, of which he lost only one fight, on December 22, 1950 in Paris against Morlay Kamara. On January 8, 1952, he faced this boxer in Asnières-sur-Seine in revenge and Jacques Prigent won this fight on points.

In 1952 Jacques Prigent boxed himself through victories over Herbert Gläser and Hans Häfner from Germany , his compatriots Hoacine Khalfi u. Charles Colpin and the Spaniard Roberto Ruiz, whom he knocked out on November 25, 1952 in Asnières-sur-Seine in the 4th round, the right to fight for the European lightweight championship against Auguste Caulet . This fight took place on January 12, 1953 in the Salle Wagram in Paris. Jacques Prigent won this fight after 15 rounds on points and was the new European champion and French lightweight champion.

On February 24, 1953 he fought in Asnières-sur-Seine against the strong welterweight Sauveur Chiocca in a draw. On May 7, 1953 Jacques lost the European title in Copenhagen by a point defeat after 15 rounds to the Dane Jorgen Johansen and on October 3, 1953 Jacques Herbillon also took the French title from him in Reims .

In the next few years Jacques Prigent fought in the welterweight division. He got a lot of good results. But he did not get to a championship fight. He fought z. B. on March 22, 1956 against Idrissa Dione , but lost the revenge against Sauveur Chioca on September 27, 1956 in Paris on points. On October 4, 1957 in Helsinki he reached a remarkable draw against the Finnish ex-European champion Elis Ask , which is all the more important because it was achieved in Finland .

On October 10, 1957, Jacques Prigent fought his last fight in Paris. He lost it against Manuel Sosa on points. After retiring from his career, he lived in Paris.
