Life

Rougeot is Professor Emeritus of French Language at the University of Paris IV . In 1969 he was one of the founders of the Union nationale inter-universitaire , an organization of professors, teachers, students and high school students who campaigns for the dissemination of ideas of Gaullist rights in education. In 1981 he was one of the founders of the Mouvement Initiative et Liberté , of which he was the first president. This continued the tradition of the Service d'action civique , an association of Gaullists to mobilize against political opponents, which had been dissolved by François Mitterrand . The MIL strongly criticized the economic and social reforms of the Mitterrand government and publicly advocated a political U-turn. Rougeot remained president of the movement until 1986, when he was replaced by André Decocq . In the 1980s he also wrote articles for Contrepoint magazine , published by the right-wing Club de l'Horloge .
