Jacques Simonet

Jacques Simonet (born December 21, 1963 in Watermael-Boitsfort / Watermaal-Bosvoorde , Belgium , † June 14, 2007 in Anderlecht ) was a Belgian politician ( MR ).

Simonet studied law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles . As a student he was already politically active, first in the Socialist Party , later in the liberal Mouvement Réformateur (MR) party . From 1999 to 2000 Jacques Simonet was Prime Minister of the Brussels Capital Region . From 2000 until his death, Simonet was, like his father, mayor of Anderlecht. From 2003 to 2004 he was also State Secretary for European Affairs in the Verhofstadt II government , then again Prime Minister of the Brussels-Capital Region. He was the son of Henri Simonet, the ex-mayor of Anderlecht and Vice-President of the European Commission from 1973 to 1977. Jacques Simonet died at the age of 43 as a result of a heart attack . He had been married since 1988 and had a son and a daughter.
