The jacquin's neckwort ( Trachelium jacquinii ) is a species of the bellflower family (Campanulaceae).

features

The numerous stems are slender, hanging-ascending to upright and densely leafed along their entire length. The up to 5 centimeters long leaves are linear-oblong, elliptical to eilanzettlich, pointed, glabrous and shiny. The upper leaves are sessile, the lower with short stalk. The spherical inflorescence has a diameter of less than 15 centimeters. The crown is light blue-violet or white. The corolla tube is 5 millimeters long. The corolla lobes are also 5 millimeters long and linear.

Systematics

One can distinguish between two subspecies:

  • The nominate form Trachelium jacquinii subsp. jacquinii (Syn .: Campanula jacquinii (Sieber) A.DC. ) grows in Crete in the crevices of vertical rocks at altitudes of 1100 to 2200 meters. Their stems are ascending to upright and 10 to 15 centimeters high. The leaves are 25 to 50 millimeters long, 8 to 15 millimeters wide and elliptical to eilanzettlich. The crown is 5 millimeters long. The chromosome number is 2n = 34.
  • The subspecies Trachelium jacquinii subsp. rumelianum ( Hampe ) Tutin (Syn .: Campanula rumeliana (Hampe) Vatke ) occurs in north-east Greece, in Bulgaria and in the European part of Turkey in montane rock crevices up to heights of 1500 meters. The evergreen perennial herbaceous plant reaches heights of 10 to 20 (rarely up to 35) centimeters and forms a Pleiokorm root . The leaves are up to 3 centimeters long, lanceolate to ovate-oblong and sharply serrated. The crown is up to 1 centimeter long. The flowering period extends from July to August, rarely until September.

According to R. Govaerts, these subspecies are regarded as separate species and both are placed in the genus Campanula .

use

Trachelium jacquinii subsp. rumelianum has been in cultivation since 1930 and is used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens and dry stone walls.
