The Jahnulales are an order of the Pleosporomycetidae within the division of the sac fungi .

features

The Jahnulales have spherical fruit bodies that are seated or formed with a stalk. They are embedded or superficial. They can have a small pore, the ostiolate , can be papilose, leathery to charcoal and are translucent to pale brown. The peridium is and thick, and consists of a few layers with relatively large cells. The hemathecium (the tissue between the tubes ) consists of pseudoparaphyses , is hyphae-like , filamentous, septate , branched and persistent and divides into wide chambers. The bitunicate tubes are egg-shaped, sack-shaped, club-shaped or cylindrical. They are thick-walled, persistent or deliquescent and have an apical apparatus . The spores are two-celled, ellipsoidal to spindle-shaped, the apical cell is slightly larger. They are translucent to brown and slightly narrowed at the septum . They can have a slimy shell.

Way of life and distribution

Representatives of the Jahnulales usually thrive in fresh water on wood, some also on palm fronds. They occur worldwide, but especially in tropical areas. Representatives of the Manglicolaceae family with the only genus Manglicola , however, are marine. They are saprobic and presumably play a role in the breakdown of organic material in freshwater and marine habitats.

Systematics and taxonomy

The order of the Jahnulales with the initially only family Aliquandostipitaceae was first described in 2002 by Ka-Lai Pang , Mohamed A. Abdel-Wahab , Hassan M. El-Sharouney , EB Gareth Jones and Somsak Sivichai to describe the family of Aliquandostipitaceae with its quite unique characteristics how to place the long stems within the Dothideomycetes . The Manglicolaceae family with the only genus Manglicola was then described in 2011 and placed in the same family. At the moment the order therefore consists of two families with one or six genera:
