Yearbook for Sexual Intermediate Levels

The yearbook for sexual intermediate stages was an annual publication of the Scientific-Humanitarian Committee under the direction of Magnus Hirschfeld . It appeared regularly from 1899 to 1923 in 23 volumes. The periodical is one of the most important sources of early sexual sciences in Germany and offered space for an interdisciplinary discourse. Many well-known authors of the time published v. a. scientific contributions on homosexuality , intersexuality and transgender topics. The complete work comprised a total of more than 11,000 pages.

In the course of time the yearbooks appeared under changing titles:

  • 1899–1908 (without 1906, years 1 to 9): Yearbook for sexual intermediate stages with special consideration of homosexuality
  • 1909–1912 (years 10 to 12): Quarterly reports of the Scientific and Humanitarian Committee. Continuation of the monthly reports and the yearbook for sexual intermediate stages
  • 1913–1914 (Years 13 and 14): Yearbook for sexual intermediate stages with special consideration of homosexuality
  • 1915–1918 (Years 15 to 18): Quarterly reports of the Scientific and Humanitarian Committee during the war
  • 1919–1923 (years 19 to 23): Yearbook for sexual intermediate stages with special consideration of homosexuality

The magazine was discontinued in 1923 because the inflation made the production costs too high.
