Don Jaime de Marichalar y Sáenz de Tejada (born April 7, 1963 in Pamplona , Navarra ) was the husband of Elena of Spain .

Life

Jaime de Marichalar y Sáenz de Tejada is the fourth of six children of the Count of Ripalda, Amalio de Marichalar y Bruguera and his wife, Concepción Sáenz de Tejada y Fernández de Bobadilla.

Jaime received his education at the Jesuit schools in Burgos and in San Estanislao de Kostka in Madrid and at the Yago school in Dublin ( Ireland ). After graduating from school, he studied economics and specialized in marketing and corporate management. In 1986 he gained practical experience in numerous financial companies in Paris , where he also lived until 1998. After several years of work in the international financial sector, Don Jaime became head and director of Credit Suisse in Madrid in 1998 and also president of the Winterthur Foundation , which promotes numerous cultural activities. He has lived in Madrid since 1998.

In December 2001, Don Jaime suffered a stroke. In 2002 he suffered a faint attack on an airplane. After lengthy rehabilitation measures , he is considered to have recovered.

Marriage and children

On March 18, 1995, Don Jaime de Marichalar married Princess Elena of Spain in Seville Cathedral . Don Jaime has held the title Duke of Lugo since his wedding . The couple have two children and in July 2003, Princess Elena suffered a miscarriage:

  • Felipe Juan Froilán de Todos los Santos de Marichalar y de Borbón (born July 17, 1998 in Madrid)
  • Victoria Federica de Marichalar y de Borbón (born September 9, 2000 in Madrid)

On November 13, 2007, the separation of the couple was announced in Spanish newspapers. The divorce took place on January 21, 2010.
