Lists on the subject |
The JakB-12.7 ( Russian ЯкБ-12.7 , English YakB-12.7 , GRAU index 9A624) is a four-barreled Soviet machine gun. The abbreviation originated from the surname of the developer Jak uschew and B orsow. The JakB was the on-board weapon of the first versions of the Mil Mi-24 attack helicopter .
technology
The JakB is a four-barreled Gatling-like machine gun. In contrast to comparable western weapons, the JakB is not externally powered, but a gas pressure loader .
installation
The MG was installed in a movable chin turret of the type USPU-24 ( Russian УСПУ-24 ) on the models Mi-24D and Mi-24W. The weapons systems officer in the front cockpit of the helicopter operated the weapon with a remote control. The lateral straightening range is 60 ° each, the vertical straightening range is between + 20 ° and −40 ° (according to other information, −60 °).
The JakB can also be mounted in universal gun cases GUW ( Russian ГУВ ) on the side pylons. In one container, a JakB with a maximum of 750 rounds of ammunition can be combined either with two machine guns GSchG-7.62 or with an AGS-17 Plamja grenade launcher .
In the course of increasing the combat value of the Mi-24 combat helicopter, the JakB was replaced by more powerful automatic cannons such as the GSch-23L or the GSch-30K . The latter 30 mm cannon is permanently mounted on the right fuselage bow; the mobility of the lighter weapons was abandoned in favor of firepower.
