Jakob Brunner (photographer)
Jakob Brunner (born June 11, 1846 in Küsnacht ; † July 16, 1927 in Zurich ) was a Swiss photographer and entrepreneur .
Life
Jakob Brunner was born on June 11, 1846 as the son of Hans Jakob and Elisabetha (née Suter) in Küsnacht. In the 1860s he completed an apprenticeship in lithography in Zurich. After several years of traveling , he settled in Basel as a portrait photographer around 1873 . In 1874 he founded his own business on Niedergasse in Winterthur , where he was the first in Switzerland to produce collotype in the high-speed press . In 1892 he moved to Zurich and founded the Brunner & Hauser company , which from 1896 was called Polygraphisches Institut AG . He also founded theBrunner & Co. Kunstanstalt , which opened an additional branch in Como from 1904 . In 1911, Brunner was again the first in Switzerland to switch to rotogravure printing .
Jakob Brunner, who married Johanna Täuber in 1872, died on July 16, 1927 in Zurich.
