Jakob Frey (copper engraver)
Jakob Frey (born February 17, 1681 in Hochdorf , † January 11, 1752 in Rome ) was a Swiss engraver and publisher of graphic works.
In 1702 he went to Rome, where he studied with Arnold van Westerhout (1651-1725) and in the studio of Carlo Maratta (1625-1713). He managed to establish himself with his own small publishing house.
Because of his work, which his contemporaries regarded as very high quality, he was considered one of the best engravers of his time.
