Leonhard von Napiersky

Leonhard von Napiersky (born July 18 . Jul / 30th July  1819 greg. In New Pebalg , Governorate of Livonia ; † October 11 jul. / 23. October  1890 greg. In Riga ) was a Baltic German historian and councilor in Riga.

Life

Leonhard Napiersky was the son of Karl Eduard Napiersky (1793–1864), pastor of Neu-Pebalg and historical researcher, and Louise Girgensohn. He studied law at the University of Dorpat and took an early interest in the legal history of Courland . In 1842 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on The Morning Gift of Rigic Law . Many of his later publications were made in collaboration with the Society for History and Archeology of the Baltic Provinces of Russia , of which he later became president.

Jakob Gottlieb Leonhard Napiersky was council secretary from 1853 and councilor in Riga from 1878.

The meteorologist August Wilhelm von Napiersky (1823–1885) was his younger brother.
