Jakob Imig

Jakob Friedrich Imig (born January 17, 1905 in Louisendorf ; † October 27, 1994 ibid) was a German dialect poet and local researcher from the Palatinate language island on the Lower Rhine .

Life

Imig was the son of Johann Karl Imig (1880–1961) and his wife Helene geb. Lange (1882-1966). He married Luise Rocker (1911–1997). Imig was a farmer by profession , but as a teenager he began to be interested in researching the history and culture of his immediate surroundings in the Palatinate language island on the Lower Rhine. Over time he published several books as well as numerous essays and articles on his area of ​​interest. In addition, he also wrote poems and prose in the dialect of his home country and collected them in two volumes. In 1955 Imig founded the Pfälzerbund am Niederrhein e. V. From 1968 until his death Imig was the editor of his magazine Pfälzer am Niederrhein. Heimatblätter for history, customs and the care of dialects . For the LVR Institute for Regional Studies and Regional History in Bonn, Imig is "the most famous Palatinate" from the Palatinate language island on the Lower Rhine.

The Jakob Imig archive of the Palatinate Federation in Louisendorf , which goes back to his collection, is named after Imig and, in Imig's sense, is dedicated to researching the history and culture of the Palatinate people on the Lower Rhine.
