from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jakob Kopp (born November 13, 1871 in Imst ; † May 9, 1960 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian draftsman and dialect poet who wrote in the dialect of the Tyrolean Oberland .

Live and act

Like his brother Hermann Kopp (1863–1912), Jakob Kopp was part of a movement of dialect poets in Imst around Karl von Lutterotti . Many of his poems were set to music as folk songs , among others by Josef Pöll .

During the period of National Socialism , Kopp wrote National Socialist propaganda . In 1938, for example, he wrote the text for the so-called connection song about the “Anschluss” of Austria to the German Reich with the refrain “Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer”; the music was written by Leo Eiter . Kopp also wrote the anti-Semitic poem Tiroler Volkssturm 1944 , which was implemented as a folk song by Josef Eduard Ploner and was included in his propagandistic songbook published in 1942 on behalf of Gauleiter Franz Hofer .

Kopp's best-known work is the homeland poem Miar Oberländer Felsafetzt , which is considered the “Hymn of the Oberlanders ”. It was also set to music by Ploner and premiered on May 27, 1944 in Imst as part of a “Customs Evening”.

Jakob-Kopp-Straße in Imst is named after him.
