The Ýokary League 2016 is the 24th season of the highest Turkmen football league since it was officially launched in 1992. The season began on March 5, 2016 with the first matchday and is expected to end in November 2016 with the 36th matchday. The defending champion is Altyn Asyr FK .
The champion will qualify directly for the AFC Cup 2017 . In addition, the winner of the Turkmen Football Cup takes part in the AFC Cup. The worst team of the season is relegated to the Birinji League .
