The Persian Gulf Pro League 2015/16 was the second season of the highest Iranian football league under this name and the 15th season since its official introduction in 2001. The season began on July 30, 2015 with the first game day and ended on the 30th Matchday on May 13, 2016. The defending champion was Sepahan FC . Newcomers from the Azadegan League are Esteghlal Ahvaz (Group A, replacing the ineligible Foolad Novin ) and Siah Jamegan Khorasan FC (Group B).
The Esteghlal Khuzestan FC was the first time Iranian champions and qualified so with Persepolis and Zob Ahan Isfahan ( cup winner ) for the AFC Champions League 2017 . Esteghlal Tehran started as a league third in qualifying for the Champions League . In addition, the Hazfi Cup winner will take part in the Champions League.
Malavan Anzali , Rah Ahan and the promoted Esteghlal Ahvaz had to relegate to the Azadegan League .
