Until the collapse of the most famous club in Ahvaz to date, FC Jonoub Ahvaz , Foolad Ahvaz was an unknown club from the province of Khusistan. Although they had won the city championship in Ahvaz in 1991 and were promoted to the second division of the regional Khusistans league, it was not until Jonoub Ahvaz took the place in the second Iranian league in 1995 that they achieved national attention. In 1996 he was promoted to the IPL . At the end of the 1990s, Ahvaz Stahlwerk took over the club. They became champions in the 2004/2005 season and took part in the Asian Champions League the following year .
The club occupied first place in the table in the 2007/08 season in the Azadegan League (Group B) . Foolad was initially unable to qualify for promotion to the IPL , as they were defeated in two play-off games Payam Mashhad . After the Iranian Football Association (IRIFF) decided not to let Sepahan Novin play in the IPL because the team forms the reserve team of Sepahan Isfahan , last year's runner-up in the Iranian championship, Foolad moved up as the second climber in the IPL.
After previously mixed seasons with mediocre final placements, Foolad was surprisingly able to win the 2nd championship title in the 2013/2014 season.
