Josef Pöll (born March 8, 1874 in Heiligkreuz near Hall in Tirol, † June 21, 1940 in Hall in Tirol ) was an Austrian teacher, musician and botanist. Its botanical author's abbreviation is " Pôll ".

Life

After graduating from the teacher training college in Innsbruck, Pöll worked as a primary school teacher from 1894 and as a secondary school teacher at schools in Kufstein , Bludenz , Hötting and Innsbruck from 1901 . From 1920 he worked as a professor for drawing at the teacher training institute in Innsbruck. In 1934 he resigned as Councilor  to retire.

Pöll looked after the herbarium of the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum and wrote numerous essays on the Tyrolean mountains and flora. In addition, he dealt with the Tyrolean folk song and wrote numerous songs in Tyrolean dialect himself. Some of them, like “Die Kasermandln” or “Mei Hoamatl hab i in Zillertal” became folk songs. From 1924 to 1938 he directed the men's choir "Die Wolkensteiner", for which he arranged around 30 songs by Oswald von Wolkenstein . These arrangements were soon sung by many Tyrolean choirs and made Oswald von Wolkenstein known to a wider public. He was a member of the University Choral Society and acted here as a choir director. For a while, Pöll also worked as a music critic for the “Innsbrucker Nachrichten”.
