Jakob Maurer (painter)

Jakob Maurer (born December 19, 1826 in Obereschbach , † May 2, 1887 in Kronberg im Taunus ) was a German landscape painter .

Maurer studied at the Städel Art Institute , where he was a student of the painter Jakob Becker . His classmate Carl Theodor Reiffenstein also influenced his artistic development in Frankfurt am Main . Maurer later moved to Düsseldorf , a center of painting training in Europe through the Düsseldorf School of Painting, and was there with Anton Burger, a private student of August Weber , whose landscape painting was influenced by Johann Wilhelm Schirmer .

Maurer lived and worked in Kronberg and was a member of the Kronberg painters' colony .

Jakob Maurer died on May 2, 1887 in Kronberg at the age of 60.
