Jakob Weber (born March 14, 1894 in Landstuhl ; † February 1, 1957 there ) was a German naturalist and local researcher . In his place of birth and death, Landstuhl, a square and a special school were named after him.

Life

Jakob Weber was born the son of an authorized signatory . He attended the elementary and Latin school in Landstuhl, then the grammar school in Kaiserslautern, which he graduated with a secondary school leaving certificate. Then he went to Trier , where he trained as a volunteer . In the First World War he took part as a war volunteer. He was used as a pioneer and rose to vice sergeant .

In 1920 he became a civil servant at a moor farm in Landstuhl. During this activity he made a name for himself as a profound expert on the flora and fauna of his hometown. He gave lectures in youth and adult education facilities and quickly earned the nickname “Uncle Jakob”.

Weber also published articles in various local and regional issues, such as the Palatinate Press , Our Home and Der Gartenbau . He also wrote prose , especially natural poetry , which was printed in the home calendars of Landstuhl and Kaiserslautern. As an artist, he also tried his hand at paper cutting .

Weber suffered from asthma and had to retire in 1955 because years of work in the moor made his ailment worse. He died on February 1, 1957. Two years later, a monument was erected in his honor and a square was named after him. The Landstuhl School in Neugasse, a school with a special focus on learning, which was established in 1973, was also named after him.
