Jakob Zahner

Jakobzahner (born November 23, 1812 in Hundwil , † May 16, 1892 in Herisau ; resident in Hundwil and from 1881 in Herisau) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur and politician from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Jakobzahner was a son of Josuazahner, farmer , and Anna Rotach. In 1879 he married Marie Bondt Bundt , daughter of Martin Bondt, post office owner . He completed a commercial apprenticeship in the textile trading house of his uncle Johannes Zahner in Herisau and Cologne . In 1837 he took over the company with Johann Jakob Schiess-Schefer as a partner. Herisauer Zahner & Schiess & Compagnie quickly rose to become one of the most important embroidery manufacturers and exporters in Eastern Switzerland . Zahner headed the London branch . From 1849 to 1850 and from 1856 to 1861 he served as councilor in Herisau.
