Jakob Zierer (born November 23, 1824 in Greding ; † June 3, 1890 there ) was a royal Bavarian postman , farmer and member of the Chamber of Deputies . He attended the royal Latin school in Eichstätt. He was the richest citizen of Greding at the time. He died childless.

MP

On August 9, 1859, he moved up for Joseph Baader in the Chamber of Deputies. There he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament in the 10th electoral term , 11th electoral term and 12th electoral term for the constituency Wb. In 1869 he left parliament.

Farmer and postman

He ran a post office, brewery (opened by him in 1870) and agriculture in the building on Gredinger Marktplatz, which today houses the Sparkasse and the Archaeological Museum. After the death of his son in 1913, his property was broken up because he was over-indebted. After that, the building was used for the city administration, as a retirement home for the Hilpoltstein district and as a hotel for Dutch tourists passing through.

When the Roth – Greding railway was planned, he advocated that the line ended in Greding and not be extended to Kinding on the Eichstätt – Beilngries railway . This extension would have made the route suitable for the passage from Munich to Nuremberg. With this he wanted to secure the existence of his post office.
