The Jakobshorn is a mountain summit in Switzerland that is accessible by aerial tramway . The less prominent summit structure is the northwest end of a ridge that runs from the south-east between the southern Sertig Valley and the northern Dischma Valley in the direction of Davos and never falls below 2560 meters between the 2.5 km away Wuosthorn (2815 m) and Jakobshorn. The Jatzhorn (2682 m) is in the immediate vicinity to the southeast. The whole area lies within the municipality of Davos.
Railway and ski area
The ski area of the same name , which consists of twelve cable cars and ski lifts, extends on the eastern slopes of the Jakobshorn . It is one of five ski areas in the Davos Klosters Mountains winter sports area .
The railway to Jakobshorn was completed in 1958. The first section leads to the Ischalp, from where the second section leads to the summit. The first section was replaced by a new building in 2014. The new gondolas now run on two suspension cables on this lower section and hold 100 people instead of the previous 50. The shortest cable car in Switzerland, the Güggel-Bahn , also connects the summit from the south, connecting the ski area around Alp Jatz to the Jakobshorn.
