James Baskerville

Sir James Baskerville of Eardisley Castle († after 1499) was an English knight .

Life

Sir James Baskerville was a son of Sir John Baskerville and Elizabeth, daughter of John Tuchet, 4th Baron Audley.

He was Sheriff of Herefordshire in 1460, 1474 and 1499 and represented the county in 1476 as Knight of the Shire in Parliament.

Sir James was a devoted supporter of the House of York and fought during the Wars of the Roses at the First Battle of St Albans (1455), at Northampton (1460), at Mortimer's Cross and Towton (1461).

James Baskerville received the accolade as a Knight Bachelor in 1464 and was elevated to Knight of the Bath by Henry VII at his coronation ceremonies in 1485 .

Before the beginning of the Battle of Stoke in 1487, in which he fought for Henry VII, he beat him to the Knight Banneret .

Marriage and offspring

Sir James was married to Sibyl, daughter of Walter Devereux, 1st Baron Ferrers of Chartley . In some sources, his wife's first name is also given as Katherine.

The couple had three sons:
