James Beattie (writer)
James Beattie (born October 25, 1735 in Laurencekirk , Kincardineshire , Scotland , † August 18, 1803 in Aberdeen ) was a Scottish philosopher and writer . Beatties poem The Minstrel (1771) was one of the earliest works of English Romanticism . He was one of the representatives of the common sense philosophy . Since 1786 he was an elected member of the American Philosophical Society .
