James Curnow

James Edward (Jim) Curnow (born April 17, 1943 in Port Huron , Michigan ) is an American composer and music teacher .

He studied at Wayne State University in Detroit and Michigan State University in East Lansing with Jere Hutchinson , F. Maxwell Wood , James Gibb and Irwin Fischer Composition , Paul Harder , Harry Begian Conducting and Leonard Falcone Euphonium .

After completing his studies, he lectured at various educational establishments and colleges in all areas of instrumental music. In 1981 he became a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign . As a lecturer for workshops, special seminars and similar events, he has traveled to the United States of America , Canada , Australia , Japan and Europe .

He has received numerous prizes and awards for his compositions.
