James D. Bissell

James Douglas Bissell, III (born August 6, 1951 in Charleston , South Carolina ) is an American production designer . He has been in the film business since the late 1970s and has been involved in more than 30 film and television productions.

Bissell received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater studies from the University of North Carolina in 1973 . He married for the first time the following year. The marriage, which resulted in a son, was divorced in 1987. In 1995 he married the film costume designer Martha Wynne Snetsinger . The two have two children.

Awards and nominations

In 1980, Bissell and Bill Webb won an Emmy Primetime Award for acting on the series Palmerstown, USA .

At the 2006 Academy Awards, Bissell and Jan Pascale were nominated for an Oscar in the Best Production Design category for their work on Good Night, and Good Luck .

The Art Directors Guild awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015 for his life's work.
