James Duncan (athlete)
James Duncan ( James Henry "Jim" Duncan ; born September 25, 1887 in New York City , † January 21, 1955 ) was an American discus thrower .
On May 27, 1912, he set the first official world record with 47.58 m.
He was therefore a favorite for the Olympic Games in Stockholm , which took place shortly afterwards. There, however, he had to admit defeat with 42.28 m to the Finn Armas Taipale (45.21 m) and his compatriot Richard Byrd (42.32 m) and took bronze. In the two-handed discus throw, Duncan was fifth.
