Richard Byrd ( Richard Leslie "Dick" Byrd ; born May 16, 1892 in Shiloh , Boundary County , Idaho ; † June 20, 1958 ) was an American athlete .

He won silver in the discus throw at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm. With a distance of 42.32 m he beat his compatriot James Duncan (42.28 m), who had recently set a world record with 47.58 m, but remained almost three meters behind the victorious Finn Armas Taipale (45.21 m) ). In the standing vault , Byrd was fourth, in the standing long jump eighth, and in the two-handed discus throw he came in 17th.

In 1919 he won silver in the discus throw at the Inter-Allied Games.
