James Karl Hoffmeier

James Karl Hoffmeier (born February 13, 1951 in Cairo ) is an Egyptologist , archaeologist and Old Testament scholar .

Hoffmeier lived in Egypt up to the age of 16. He then studied at Wheaton College and the University of Toronto . From 1980 to 1999 he was Professor of Archeology and the Old Testament at Wheaton College.

From 1975 to 1977 Hoffmeier worked for the Akhenaten Temple Project under the direction of Donald B. Redford . From 1999 to 2008 he headed the North Sinai Archaeological Project , which examined the Egyptian borders at the time of the New Kingdom . Hoffmeier also looked for possible connections to the Exodus story . Among other things, he carried out excavations in Tell el-Borg .

Hoffmeier also worked on various TV programs, for example for History and Discovery Channel .
