James Martin (2012)

James Martin SJ (born December 29, 1960 in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania ) is a Roman Catholic theologian , priest and author .

Life

Martin grew up in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, and attended Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School . In 1982 he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and worked for six years at the US company General Electric . Dissatisfied with his professional and private world, he entered the order of the Jesuits in 1988 . He studied Roman Catholic theology at the University of Pennsylvania . In 1999 Martin was ordained a priest. As an author, he has written more than ten books. He is Editor-at-Large for America magazine . As a guest author, he was often seen on US television channels and media portals such as CNN, NPR, Fox News Channel, Time Magazine and The Huffington Post. He is Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Fordham Jesuit University in Manhattan. Under Pope Francis , he was appointed advisor to the Dicastery for Communication in 2017 .
