James Miyaji

James Miyaji (born June 17, 1928 in Honolulu Hawaii , ( USA ) - † February 22, 2019 ) was an American grandmaster, Hanshi , 10th Dan (martial arts) , of karate and Kobudo .

At the age of 21 he began teaching judo . His lessons with the founder of the Shorinji ryu style Richard Kim (* 1917; † 2001), Hanshi, 10th Dan, he began in 1957. He was one of Kim's closest students. Among other things, he studied the Goju ryu and Shito ryu .

Miyaji was a founding member of the Hawaii Karate Congress and the Hawaii Karate Kodanshakai, as well as a representative of the Dai Nippon Butokukai (International Division) in Hawaii.

  • 1985 8th Dan through the Hawaii Karate Kodanshakai.
  • 1997 9th Dan through the Hawaii Karate Kodanshakai.
  • In 2005 he was appointed Hanshi by the Hawaii Karate Kodanshakai.
  • 2011 10th Dan Shorinji ryu Karate Do, by the Kokusai Butokukai.
