James Moulton Burfield (* 1845 in Hastings , East Sussex , † 8. May 1888 in Sussex ) was an English genre painter of Neorokoko .

Life

Burfield, son of the coal merchant, brewery and ship owner Thomas James Breeds Burfield (1810-1865) and his wife Kate, née Letterman (1809-1887), was baptized on September 4, 1845 in Hastings. He lived as a genre painter in London , where he exhibited at the British Institution in 1865 and repeatedly at the Royal Academy of Arts between 1869 and 1883 . Burfield specialized in depicting courtly scenes from the Rococo period . He lived for a long time in Düsseldorf , where he exhibited in the 1870s, for example in the Bismeyer & Kraus salon . He had a formative influence on his compatriot Walter Dendy Sadler , who also worked in Düsseldorf.
