Career

Bournemouth AFC

James O'Connor, who came from the youth of Aston Villa , made his professional debut on September 4, 2004 for English third division club FC Port Vale in a 2-0 away win over Bradford City . He was previously on loan to the club from Stoke-on-Trent . Due to the lack of match practice at Aston Villa was on February 18, 2005 another move on loan to AFC Bournemouth . After the 20-year-old defender knew how to convince, coach Sean O'Driscoll signed him on March 24, 2005 on a permanent contract basis. In the 2005/06 season he earned a regular place in the defense of the third division.

Doncaster Rovers

On May 17, 2006, O'Connor moved to third division rivals Doncaster Rovers and signed a three-year contract. In the course of the first half of the 2006/07 season, his previous coach Sean O'Driscoll took over the coaching position in Doncaster and led the club to win the Football League Trophy . In the Football League One 2007/08 , the Rovers reached the play-offs thanks to a third place in the table and moved into the final after a success over Southend United . In front of 75,132 spectators at Wembley, Doncaster defeated Leeds United 1-0 and rose for the first time since 1958 back to the second-highest division. After relegation in the Football League Championship in 2008/09 and a midfield position in 2009/10 , the club secured itself late in the 2010/11 season to remain in the second division. This succeeded the team around James O'Connor in the Football League Championship 2011/12 no longer, rather the Rovers rose with their new coach Dean Saunders as bottom of the table in the third division.

Derby County

On August 1, 2012, Derby County signed the 27-year-old and provided him with a two-year contract.
