James Sheridan Tansey

James Sheridan Tansey (born July 29, 1904 in New York City , New York ; died April 12, 1961 in Sacramento , California ) was an American film actor . He starred in more than 170 films between 1915 and 1949.

Career

James Sheridan Tansey was born the third and youngest son of the actor couple Harry Tansey and Emma Purcell Tansey in New York City, the father died on March 12, 1910 at home of pneumonia. James Sheridan's eldest brother, Robert Emmett Tansey, was also an actor and from 1930 worked as a screenwriter , film director , producer and various other roles in the production of a variety of b-westerns . Middle brother John Tansey was best known as the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company's third child star around 1908-1910 . John's acting career was largely over in 1918. From 1924 to 1932 he played a few minor roles and was involved in five films as a director, screenwriter and producer, mostly with Robert.

James Sheridan Tansey's film career began in 1915 with a supporting role in the drama Destruction directed by Will S. Davis . In the following years he played supporting roles sporadically, and from 1934 he became a frequently used actor in westerns . He starred in nearly 150 films in the 1930s and 1940s. Most of these films were made by his brother Robert Emmett as a screenwriter , director or producer .

John Sheridan Tansey retired entirely from the film business in the late 1940s. Most recently he worked as a janitor of the meeting hall of a union. In April 1961 he was admitted to a hospital in Sacramento with heart problems , where he died four days later.
