James William Moore
James William Moore (born February 12, 1818 in Montgomery County , Kentucky , † September 17, 1877 in Mount Sterling , Kentucky) was an American lawyer and Confederate politician .
Career
James William Moore was born and raised in Kentucky about three years after the end of the British-American War . He studied law and was admitted to the bar. Between 1851 and 1858 he served as a state court judge in Kentucky. He also had a political career. In 1861 he took part as a delegate to the Kentucky Secession Convention, where he voted for secession of his state. He was then elected to the First Confederate Congress for the 10th constituency of Kentucky in November 1861 , where he took up his post on February 18, 1862. He ran successfully for the second Confederate Congress and was then active there until 1865. After the end of the civil war , he resumed his work as a lawyer. On September 28, 1866, he received his pardon from US President Andrew Johnson . Moore died in his hometown of Mount Sterling (Montgomery County) in 1877 and was buried there in Machpelah Cemetery .
