Jan Cybis Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jan Cybis Prize (Polish: "Nagroda im. Jana Cybisa") is an important award for Polish painters. The award is presented annually by the Warsaw District of the Association of Polish Visual Artists (ZPAP) . The prize, which has existed since 1973, was named after Jan Cybis , who had a strong influence on the development of Polish painting after the Second World War and was one of the founding fathers of the ZPAP.

During the period of martial law in Poland , in which the ZPAP was initially restricted in its possibilities and then temporarily dissolved, the Association of Art Historians (Polish: "Stowarzyszenia Historyków Sztuki") temporarily took over the award. The winners will be announced during an exhibition in the “SHS Gallery” in Warsaw and published by the “Tygodnik Powszechny” newspaper.
