Jan-Peter Peckolt (born May 4, 1981 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German sailor of the 49er dinghy .

The industrial engineering student currently living in Hamburg had his first sailing experiences with his brother Hannes in a rented catamaran on Corsica , after which they made their first attempts at sailing at SG Waldsee . Peckolt has been the helmsman in the 49er dinghy since 2000 , together with his brother and crew Hannes Peckolt. Before that, the two siblings had sailed in a 420 dinghy and finished thirteenth at the 1999 World Cup, but then switched to the 49er class because of the higher demands.

Since then, they have achieved several successes, including third at the 2005 European Championships and second at the 2007. In 2004 they almost missed qualifying for the Olympic Games in Athens, instead of them the duo Marcus Baur and Max Groy took there for Germany. For one year (February 2007 to February 2008) the Peckolts were leaders in the ISAF world rankings, in 2008 they were able to qualify for the Olympics . In the same year they reached sixth place at the world championship after they had already placed fourth there in 2006.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing, the two brothers achieved the bronze medal in their discipline. Behind the Danes Jonas Warrer and Martin Ibsen as well as the Spaniards Iker Martinez and Xabier Fernández they managed to jump to third place. At first it was unclear whether the Danes would be disqualified because they had borrowed the Croatian boat after their mast had broken, but twenty hours after the final, the international jury decided in favor of the Danes, who were allowed to remain Olympic champions.

Peckolt is a member of the Langenargen yacht club and the Waldsee sailing community.
