Jan (II) Six , also Jan Six van Hillegom (* February 8, 1668 in Amsterdam ; † January 8, 1750 ), Army of Vromade and Wimmenum and Ambachtsherr von Hillegom , was a state - minded Amsterdam regent for many years during the second period without a governor .

biography

The descendant of the Six family was born as the son of Jan Six and Margaretha Tulp . His brother-in-law was Lieve Geelvinck , his grandfather was Nicolaes Tulp . Six was married three times: first to Agatha Decquet, then to Maria Calkoen and then to Anna Elisabeth van den Bempden .

In 1701 Six came into the city government as Vroedschap . Other offices were that of a Schepen and a city commissioner. In 1719 he was appointed governing mayor for the first time. Between the years 1722 and 1748 another 15 years of office followed as this. Six had been one of the leading state-minded rulers of Holland at the time. During his tenure as mayor, he was also able to raise his nephew Pieter Six to Amsterdam mayor through clever tactics. After the end of the second governorless period in 1748, Six was removed from the government by the new inheritor William IV of Orange .
