Jan Černý-Nigranus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jan Černý-Nigranus (Latin Johannes Nigrinus ; * around 1500/1510 in Kunvald ; † February 5, 1565 in Mladá Boleslav ) was bishop of the Unity of the Bohemian Brothers and Historians.

Life

In 1537 he was ordained a priest and worked in Brandeis in the unity of the Bohemian Brothers under the protection of the noble Konrad Kraiger von Kraigk († 1572). As he barely escaped arrest after hostility in 1543, he fled to Prague.

After a fire in 1546 the Litomyšl archive destroyed the Brethren, he started all documents relating to the pursuit of the collection Hussite related. With this he founded the history of the Brothers' Union. He was supported by the later bishop of the Brethren Jan Blahoslav , the scribe Matěj Červenka and others.

If no originals were found, he filled the gap with reliable records. After the repression of the class uprising in 1547, he fled to Poland and Prussia with the bishop of the brothers Mácha . In 1550 he was appointed representative of the bishop and three years later, together with Matěj Červenka, one of the four bishops. In 1558 he was appointed magistrate.
