Jan Čuřík

Jan Čuřík (born November 1, 1924 in Prague , Czechoslovakia , † December 4, 1996 in Prague, Czech Republic ) was a Czechoslovak cameraman .

Life

Čuřík began his professional career at the time of the German occupation during the Second World War at Herafilm. After the liberation in 1945 he worked for several years as a camera assistant in documentary short films, from 1954 he can be proven as the sole responsible cameraman - initially for documentary films, but a little later for feature films in the Barrandov Studios. Čuřík photographed a considerable number of dramatic stories with a historical background (especially the Second World War), which regularly followed the interpretation of the socialist regime in Prague, sporadically, as in 1961 for the contemporary drama The Gleiwitz case , he was also brought in by DEFA. In 1962 Jan Čuřík photographed his most impressive film, which also received a lot of attention beyond the Iron Curtain : The concentration camp drama Transport from Paradise by Zbyněk Brynych . Until the revolution in 1989 and the restoration of democracy in Czechoslovakia, the regime-loyal cameraman remained in business, after which Čuřík retired.
