Jan Alfons Keustermans

Jan Alfons Keustermans (born May 6, 1940 in Hoboken , Antwerp Province ) is a Belgian sculptor and medalist .

In 1964 he was awarded a prize in the sculpture department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp . He has worked as a medalist since 1982, and he often signs his work with the initials "JAKE". From 1986 to 2000 he was director of the Stedelijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Turnhout . Keustermans produced more than 750 works, including a large number of official portraits.

Keusterman's most widespread work is his design of the last Belgian franc minted from 1994 to 2001 with the head image of King Albert II. The design was also used for the Belgian euro coins minted from 1999 to 2013 .
