Jan Bockemühl (born May 25, 1966 in Wermelskirchen ) is a German criminal defense attorney and legal scholar .

Life

Bockemühl studied law at the University of Regensburg from 1987 to 1992 . He did his legal clerkship from 1992-1994 in the higher regional court district of Nuremberg . He spent his legal position in the office of the Berlin defense attorney Gerhard Jungfer. During his studies he was already employed at Jürgen Wolter's chair for criminal law and criminal procedure law. As a trainee lawyer, he worked as a part-time scientific assistant at the chair of Wolter and Andreas Hoyer .

From 1994 to 1996, Bockemühl worked as a full-time academic assistant at the Chair of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law and Legal Theory Andreas Hoyer, University of Regensburg. In 1996 Bockemühl obtained his doctorateDr. iur. "At the University of Regensburg with the dissertation " Private investigations in criminal proceedings - a contribution to the teaching of the prohibition of evidence ". In 1996 he was admitted to the bar. From 1996 to 2000 he worked as a criminal defense lawyer in a Landshut law firm. He has been a specialist lawyer for criminal law since 1999 .

Since 2000 he has been an independent lawyer with his office in Regensburg . Since the summer semester of 2000, Bockemühl has been a lecturer in criminal procedure law at the University of Regensburg. The Federal Bar Association has appointed him in 2012 in the Criminal Law Committee of the Federal Bar Association. On November 26th, 2015 he was appointed honorary professor for criminal procedure law by the University of Regensburg .

Bockemühl is a member of various legal associations, including u. A. of the "Initiative of Bavarian Defense Defenders e. V. ”, in which he holds the position of chairman of the board, of the“ Association of Austrian Criminal Defense Lawyers ”as well as the“ Forum for Criminal Defense ”(CH) and the“ Working Group on Criminal Law of the German Lawyers' Association e. V. ". He is the editor and co-author of the “Handbuch des Fachanwalts Criminal Law”, co-editor and co-author of the criminal proceedings commentary “KMR”, co-author of the “Munich Commentary on the Criminal Code” and the author of numerous other criminal law publications. In addition, he regularly gives lectures to other legal / attorney associations (including the German Defense Defense Association, the three-country forum for criminal defense). On January 14, 2013, Bockemühl was heard as an expert in the legal committee of the German Bundestag.

From March 2011 to March 2013, Bockemühl was involved as a criminal defense lawyer in the FDLR trial in Stuttgart, the first criminal proceedings based on the International Criminal Code in Germany. Together with Hartmut Wächtler, Bockemühl represented the well-known TV lawyer Stephan Lucas in his criminal proceedings for obstruction.
