Jan Eric Kvarnström (born January 28, 1948 in Sweden ) is a Swedish economist and manager. He is one of the leading minds in the restructuring of credit institutions and companies in Europe.

biography

Kvarnström studied economics at Uppsala University (degree: Master of Science, MSc) , then obtained an Executive MBA from Handelshögskolan in Stockholm and completed the Executive Program at Harvard Business School . His professional career began in 1971 with the Swedish Tobacco Company, after which he moved to the Swedish family company Bonnier . From 1984 to 1990 he worked in various management positions at Nordea (then PK Banken, Nordbanken), the largest financial service provider in Northern Europe.

At the beginning of the 1990s, Kvarnström went to Securum AB, the first European, state-owned bad bank , of which he was Chief Executive Officer from 1994 until the scheduled dissolution after work was done in 1997. Securum AB took on problematic risks in the Swedish banking industry, ensured that they were liquidated quickly and in the best possible way, thereby securing the capital and liquidity of the viable parts of this sector. During this time, he managed to develop a total of five companies from the acquired assets and successfully place them on the stock exchange: Nobelpharma - today Nobel Biocare -, Servisair and three real estate companies, Castellum AB, Norrporten AB and Pandox AB.

In 1997, Kvarnström was appointed CEO and President of the office supplies manufacturer Esselte Group AB . His main task was to reposition the company and focus on its core business. Kvarnström unbundled the historically grown structures of the group. The core business was bundled in Esselte Office Products AB, divisions such as Meto and the subsidiary Nielsen & Bainbridge were sold. As a result, the company developed into one of the world's leading suppliers of office supplies.

In 2001 he moved to Dresden Bank as a member of the board and became CEO of the “ Institutional Restructuring Unit ” ( IRU) in Frankfurt. The task of the IRU was to develop and sell the distressed and non-strategic business of Dresdner Bank in the amount of 35.5 billion euros in a value-conserving manner. In 2005 this task was completed two years ahead of schedule.

After his role as Executive Chairman of the international holding company Linebrock Ltd. (2006–2007) he was a founding partner and advisor of the restructuring consultancy ERC, founded in 2008. a. Advising Baltic banks on restructuring issues and providing operational support.

In addition to his management activities in the operational business, Kvarnström can refer to more than 25 years of experience as a member of the supervisory board. For example at Castellum AB (AR chair), Nobel Biocare , Swedish Post , Servisair Plc , AkzoNobel , Geveke BV and Collector AB (AR chair). He is also a Non Executive Director at AXA Partners CLP and a member of the Supervisory Board at Am Trust International MI and Cordet Capital .

Together with his wife Karin Siegle-Kvarnström, he manages his own investments in real estate, hotels and private equity through the K + Cie family office.
